Couples Work

Understanding each other. Understanding yourself.

They've read the books, seen therapists, worked with coaches, listened to podcasts, attended workshops, and had the same conversations over and over again. For a while, things improve, but eventually they find themselves back in the same painful patterns.

By the time they arrive, trust has often been damaged. Arguments have become repetitive. Communication has broken down, intimacy has faded, and one or both partners may be questioning whether the relationship can survive.

How did we get here?

It begins by understanding that relationships rarely break down because two people stop loving each other. More often, they become trapped in unconscious patterns that neither person fully understands. Every argument, every withdrawal, every criticism, every betrayal, every affair, every moment of loneliness, and every night spent feeling disconnected has a history. Until that history is understood, couples continue trying to solve today's problems with yesterday's conditioning.

Our work is not about deciding who is right or wrong. It is about helping each person understand themselves deeply enough that they can truly begin to understand one another. As understanding grows, blame gives way to curiosity, defensiveness softens, and new possibilities begin to emerge.

Why this work is different

Traditional couple therapy often focuses on communication techniques or conflict resolution. While those skills are valuable, they rarely address the deeper patterns that continue recreating the same relationship. Ariel's work looks beyond the conflict itself.

Together, we explore how each person's nervous system has been shaped by life experiences, family dynamics, emotional wounds, beliefs, fears, and protective patterns. We begin to understand how these unconscious patterns influence the way each partner loves, withdraws, reacts, communicates, and connects.

When those deeper patterns begin to change, the relationship naturally begins to change with them. Communication becomes more honest. Trust becomes easier to rebuild. Conflict becomes less reactive. Intimacy begins to return. The relationship changes because the people inside it have changed.

What couples come to us for

‍

Some couples come after an affair or betrayal has shattered trust. Others have slowly become roommates rather than lovers. Some are exhausted by constant conflict, while others have stopped arguing altogether because they have simply stopped caring.

‍

Many couples feel emotionally alone despite sharing a home. Others struggle with parenting, money, addiction, resentment, emotional distance, or different visions for the future. Some are questioning whether to stay together at all, while others know they want to rebuild but no longer know how.

Understanding Intimacy

One of the most common areas we explore is intimacy.

Most couples have never learned how to have an honest conversation about their sexual relationship. Not because they don't care, but because they don't know how.

Sex is rarely just about sex.

It reflects emotional safety, trust, feeling desired, feeling chosen, resentment, fear, rejection, love, vulnerability, and longing. Often, the sexual relationship becomes the place where years of unspoken emotions are expressed without words.

Women and men frequently experience intimacy very differently. They often have different emotional needs, different ways of feeling connected, and different ways of expressing love.

One of Ariel's greatest strengths is helping each partner understand the world the other is living in. She helps women express what they have struggled to communicate in ways their partner can truly hear, while also helping men articulate what they often cannot find words for themselves.

For many couples, it is the first time either partner has genuinely felt understood.

The areas we explore

Although every couple's journey is unique, our work often includes exploring the deeper dynamics beneath intimacy, communication, trust, money, parenting, lifestyle, purpose, and emotional connection.

We look at how each partner experiences love, conflict, responsibility, appreciation, security, and belonging. We explore the unconscious expectations each person brings into the relationship, the emotional patterns that continue repeating themselves, and the ways childhood experiences, family systems, and past relationships continue influencing the present.

Rather than simply solving today's problem, we seek to understand the architecture beneath it. As those underlying patterns become clear, the relationship begins reorganizing around greater awareness, honesty, and truth.

What working together looks like

Every relationship is different, and so is every couple's journey.

Some couples begin the work together. Others begin because one partner reaches out first. It is not uncommon for one person to feel ready before the other, and that is perfectly normal. The work begins with whoever is willing to take the first step.

Most couples start with an extended assessment session. This creates space for each person to share their experience of the relationship without interruption, blame, or judgment. Ariel listens deeply—not simply to the story itself, but to the patterns that have shaped the relationship over time.

Many couples describe this first session as the first time they have both felt genuinely heard.

From there, the work often moves into individual sessions. Lasting change begins by understanding ourselves. Through Inquiry, reflective dialogue, and where appropriate, Somatic Table Sessions, each partner explores their emotional patterns, fears, assumptions, relationship history, protective strategies, and unconscious ways of relating.

As this individual work unfolds, something begins to change. Old reactions soften. Defensive patterns lose their grip. Each person develops greater self-awareness and emotional maturity.

When the time is right, couples return to work together. These sessions are no longer about repeating familiar arguments. They become opportunities to meet one another with greater presence, honesty, compassion, and understanding.

For many couples, this is where trust begins to rebuild and intimacy naturally starts returning.

The areas we explore

Many couples choose to deepen the work through private intensives. Some begin with individual five-day Personal Intensives, allowing each partner to do profound work on themselves before returning to the relationship. Others continue into a three-day Couples Intensive, where they begin consciously creating a new way of relating together.

Depending on the needs of the couple, these intensives may include guided Inquiry, somatic partner practices, communication, trust-building, emotional connection, relationship exercises. The purpose is not simply to resolve conflict. It is to create an entirely different foundation for the relationship.

The Outcome

Every relationship is different. Some couples work together for several months. Others choose a longer journey. There is no predetermined path because every couple arrives with a different history and different hopes for the future.

‍

The goal is never simply to save a relationship. The goal is to help two people become more conscious, more self-aware, and more emotionally mature. Sometimes that leads to rebuilding trust after betrayal. Sometimes it leads to rediscovering intimacy after years of emotional distance.

‍

Sometimes it allows couples to reconnect with the love that first brought them together. And sometimes, through greater understanding and honesty, couples realize the healthiest path is to part with respect rather than remain trapped in resentment.

‍

Whatever the outcome, the intention is the same: to help each person live with greater truth, greater freedom, and greater understanding of themselves.

‍

Because when two people truly understand themselves, they become capable of understanding one another. From that place, trust can be rebuilt. Love can deepen. Intimacy can return. And the relationship becomes not simply a partnership, but a place where two people continue growing, learning, and creating a life together with greater awareness, honesty, and love.
